Blepharoplasty (Eyelid surgery)
-With age your eyelids stretch and the muscles supporting them weaken. As a result, excess skin and fat can gather above and below your eyelids. This can cause sagging eyebrows, droopy upper lids, and bags under the eyes.
-Severely sagging skin around the eyes can reduce side vision (peripheral vision), especially the upper and outer parts of the your vision. Blepharoplasty can reduce or get rid of these vision problems. The surgery can also make eyes look younger and more alert.
Before your eyelid surgery
You will need the following:
-Complete eye exam.
-Visual field testing. This is to see if there are blind spots in the corners of the eyes (peripheral vision). This is done in the office.
-Eyelid photography. Photos from different angles help with planning the surgery, and documenting whether there's a medical reason for it, which will support an insurance claim.
-We will also ask if you would like to be one of our models to show other patients how beneficial the surgery is.
After your eyelid surgery
-You will have a recovery period of two weeks with no lifting or bending.
-If you wear makeup you will have to avoid applying for 1 week.
Not ready for the surgery and want to try an alternative?
Ask the doctor about Upneeq: Lid Lifter
-This is an alternative for patients whose lids are just beginning to lower but not yet causing vision problems. This is an eye drop that lifts lids within about two hours after putting in drop.
-With daily use one box can last two months and with occasional use for only special events and outings one box can last up to 6 months.
